What are Backlinks?
This may be a thing that may come to you if you are trying to grow your website business. So basically, Backlinks are those links that are directed towards your website. They are also known as Inbound links (IBL’s).In other words, they are links from other websites to your website. Building quality backlinks is extremely important to Search Engine Optimization, and because of their importance, it should be very high on your priority list in your SEO efforts.
Now, let’s figure out what is the importance of these links.
Backlinks are important for SEO because search engines like Google tend to give more credit to those websites that have a good number of quality backlinks. They consider those websites more relevant than others in their results pages for a search query. Hence, The number of backlinks a website has is a good indicator of its popularity or importance with search engines. However, It is not sufficient to have a high number of inbound links; they need to be quality links as well. When search engines calculate the relevance of a site to a keyword, they consider the number of QUALITY inbound links to that site. So we need not be satisfied with merely getting inbound links, it is the quality of the inbound link that matters.
To find out the quality of the backlink, a search engine considers the content of the sites to determine the QUALITY of a link. When inbound links of your site come from the other sites, and those sites that have content related to your site, these inbound links are considered more relevant to your site. If inbound links are found on sites along with unrelated content then they are considered to be less relevant. The higher the relevance of inbound links, the greater is their quality. For example, if a webmaster has a website about how to rescue orphaned puppies, and received a backlink from another website about puppies, then that would be more relevant in a search engine’s assessment than say a link from a site about bike racing. The more relevant the site content is that is linking back to your website, the better is the quality of the backlink.
Search engines want the websites to have a level playing field. So, they look for natural links that are built slowly over time. While it is fairly easy to manipulate links on a web page to try to achieve the higher ranking, it has become a lot harder to influence a search engine with external backlinks from the other websites. This is also one of the reasons why backlinks factor in so highly into a search engine’s algorithm. However, a search engine’s criteria for quality inbound links has gotten even tougher, because of the webmasters trying to achieve these inbound links using deceptive or sneaky techniques, such as with hidden links, or by automatically generated pages whose only purpose is to provide inbound links to the websites. These pages are called link farms, and they are not only disregarded by search engines but even worse is that linking to a link farm could get your site entirely banned.
A few ways that are used when beginning to backlink your website
1. To keep the track of your backlinks the Domain Stats Tool can be used.
2. The Backlink Builder Tool can be used to find websites that are related to you that would be likely to add you as a link to their site.
3. To achieve quality backlinks, you must entice visitors to come to your website.
4. Learn the use of Anchor text. When a link incorporates a keyword into the text of the hyperlink, we call this the quality anchor text. A link’s anchor text may be one of the under-estimated resources a webmaster has.
Since, everyone wants their website to be on the top of the google search list hence people do a lot of non-integral things to get the things done which causes them a lot of troubles. Hence you must be aware of these things.
Interlinking sites doesn’t help you from the search engine standpoint. The only reason you want to interlink your sites in the first place maybe to provide your visitors with extra resources to visit. In this case, it shall probably be okay to provide visitors with a link to another of your websites, but you must try to keep the instances of linking to the same IP address to a bare minimum. One or two links on a page here and there probably won’t hurt you. You also have to be careful about interlinking multiple websites on the same IP. For eg. If you own seven related websites, then a link to every website on a page can hurt you, as it may look to a search engine that you are trying to do something fishy. Many webmasters have tried to manipulate backlinks this way, and too many links to sites with the same IP address are called backlink bombing.
Backlinks are important for end-user. With an end-user, backlinks connect searchers with information that is similar to what is being written on the other resources. For example, let’s assume this happens when an end-user is reading a page that discusses “how child care expenses are driving women out of the workforce.” As they scroll down, they might see another link with a study on “how has the rise in child care costs over the last 25 years affected the women’s employment.” In this case, a backlink establishes connection points for information that a searcher may be interested in clicking. This external link creates a solid experience because it transfers the user directly to additional desirable information if needed.
Backlinks must be a priority in your Search Engine Optimization because of their importance. I hope that you may have gained an understanding of why your site needs quality links and you can use the tools discussed to obtain those links.
